QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
Can I beach launch with the Sauger?
That would depend entirely on the condition at the launch. If the swell is small and the water condition is calm, then a beach launch is entirely possible but large swell and choppy conditions would greatly affect the Sauger and make the launch uncomfortable. Keep in mind that the nose of the kayak is elevated but not lifted so water will flow over the nose if impacted by a wave and this will greatly slow your speed. When beach launching always take out the scupper plugs so that any surface water drains immediately.
-
I see there is a Fish finder compartment, How would you install that?
Under the kayak, there is a nylon slated protection plate that can be easily unscrewed. When you lift off the lid you will see four brass inserts and these are used to mount your transducer to the kayak. Once you have mounted the transducer you can run your cables up through the fish finder scupper port and onto the deck. Close the protection plate as this will ensure the longevity of the transducer beam. You can then choose to either mount the LCD screen on the accessory rail or on the toolbox.
-
Would I be able to stand and fish on the Sauger?
As mentioned above in question one the triple keel shape has immense stability as the two side keels act as stabilizers for the kayak. Once you are up and standing please remember to keep your knees slightly bent as this will assist with any side-to-side tilt movement the moving water may cause.
-
How fast is the kayak?
The average paddling speed is around 4,8 km an hour.
-
Can I use the kayak as a single seater?
The Sauger has four main molded positions on the deck. The seating positions have a higher and lower setting but unfortunately, these seating molds are permanent and cannot be adjusted therefore limiting the kayak to a tandem option. Should you wish to use the kayak as a single option please remember that you will have to offset the tilt created by the seat positions by placing a cooler and your fishing gear on the opposite side of the kayak.
-
Is the kayak more or less stable with the triple keel hull design?
The triple keel shape enhances stability in the water as now you have three main connecting points to the water. As the three keels settle into the water they act as anchor points to keep the kayak from swaying sideways. Tripple keel kayaks work incredibly well in calm conditions.
-
I see there is a rudder system, can I connect both the forward and rear hand rudders at the same time?
Unfortunately, not. The rudder system is designed to work individually as if both were connected and if both paddlers try to operate the steering at the same time it could badly damage the rudder system. Choose a dedicated steering captain and set up the rudder as that person’s seating position.
-
Should I take out or leave the Scupper Plugs in?
Due to its shape and design and the fact that it has high walls the scupper plug tubes will be long and not allow any water returns so by taking them out completely, you would guarantee quick drainage which would be a lot better than possible water damming.

-
Can I mount a motor on the back of the kayak?
The design of the Sauger doesn’t allow for a rear-mounted motor, but you can use a Side motor mount that connects to the kayak with a plated mount and butterfly clips. Behind the seat in the tank well area, you will see two molded grooves with three brass insert points on either side of the kayak. Place the side motor mount bar into the groove and once spaced correctly use the silver plates and butterfly screws to connect the bar into position.
-
Should I want to at some point upgrade my Sauger what drive options are there?
Our drive box designs on the Fin Drive and the Prop Drive allow for both to fit perfectly into the Sauger by simply unscrewing the toolbox clips and removing the toolbox. Then insert the drive you want to use and fasten the clips to ensure that the drive box is securely in place as a loose fitting box will greatly affect the drive’s performance. Both Systems work equally well but the Prop Drive will be best suited in open sea conditions.

-
Does the triple keel slow the kayak down at all?
The extra impact points of any triple keel craft definitely will create more friction but the keels are very slender in shape so there contact points to the water are minimal and as there is less contact to the water surface the friction is less and therefore doesn’t affect the kayaks speed too much.
